The one that has gone furthest is a company I would like to work for, and its base ceiling is below the bottom of the range I set for myself when I started. I have not said out loud to anyone that I will probably take it. That is the part I can’t post. Not the rejections. Rejections are boring, everyone has a folder of them. The unpostable part is that the thing I am hoping hardest for is a pay cut.

I write cover letters that the forms have no field for. Twice this month the argument got made in a document nobody opened.

The word for how I’m doing is savings.
